McDowell had done many things right this year but had not won. Now finally managed to correct that.
Back in the field in which he has recorded two key moments in his career, McDowell held a swoop of his nearest rival, American Keegan Bradley.
Bradley revealed that since the public at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, USA, where he competed in the tournament, shouted "cheat" by using the putter anchored to the body.
Meanwhile, in three appearances in the World Challenge, McDowell now has two wins and a second place.
The American Tiger Woods, defending champion and tournament host, tied fourth with two other competitors, eight strokes behind the winner.
This was the last stop on a long tour of McDowell, who spent two weeks in China, a few days of rest in Dubai, participated in a tournament in Australia, then returned to Dubai and from there he went to California. It had been a year full of opportunities, but until now had failed to win trophies.
The World Challenge does not count as an official tournament, although granted World Ranking points.
