PGA - European Tour - Woods at Torrey Pines is imposed

LA JOLLA - Like old times, Tiger Woods subdued the field at Torrey Pines. And just like old times, won without looking who was coming back.

With a leadership that was never in doubt after the second round, and it ended up being four strokes, the U.S. clearly won his first tournament of the year on the PGA Tour: the Farmers Insurance Open, which was played at Torrey Pines, a public field of La Jolla, California, United States.
The advantage was always comfortable, and even the four strokes that Woods went in between holes 14 and 17 in the final round gave excitement to the championship final.
Second, without having threatened the tip in the final two laps, also ended the Americans Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater, with 10 under par.
Tied for fourth Jimmy Walker and his compatriots Nick Watney, with 9 under par.
Woods racked up 14 strokes under par, in a field which has always dominated. He won seven PGA Tour titles there, and the U.S. Open in 2008, at the playoff against Rocco Mediate remembered.
Woods, who with this victory accumulated 75 PGA Tour titles in his career, he won the PGA Tour event at Torrey Pines in 1999, 2003, '05, '06, '07, '08 and '13. In his 13 appearances in tournaments played at Torrey Pines, Woods finished out of the Top 10 only once, when he finished tied for the No. 44 two years ago.
Torrey Pines complex consists of two courts, in which players alternated during the first two rounds: the South, par 72, 7698 yards, and North, par 72 of 7045 yards.
The last two rounds were played only in the first and most difficult, that is the South.
The event concluded on Monday after a suspension for one day fog that delayed the third round.
Woods noted progress in his short game as one of the main reasons for their success in this tournament.
"That's something I needed to work," acknowledged Woods. "I have devoted more time to it, and consequently has improved."
The American Bubba Watson, reigning Masters, withdrew from the tournament before, for flu symptoms. His place was taken by compatriot Billy Mayfair, who did not pass the cut.
Five American participated in this year's Farmers Insurance Open, and none of them managed to make the cut.
The Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas was in court two and missed the cut by one stroke. Camilo Villegas finished with a blow over par and missed by two. The Argentine Angel Cabrera and Fabian Gomez closed his involvement with a total of two strokes over par, and his compatriot Andres Romero finished with six strokes over par.
